What is Rose Quartz? – Rose Quartz is a silicon dioxide crystal and is one of the most common varieties of the Quartz family. It is found in abundance around the world and occurs only in large forms, with no crystal faces, edges or terminations. It is hazy to translucent, and is usually found in the cores of granite. Its name comes from its soft rose colour, which ranges from very pale pink to deep reddish-pink and is due to trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese inside it. It has a similar structure as dumortierite and is so stable that will not fade with heat or direct sunlight.
It is most commonly found in Madagascar, India, Germany, and several locations in the USA. Much rose quartz was extracted from South Dakota USA, but now, most of the world’s supply of good quality rose quartz comes from Brazil.
Often called the heart Stone, it may have been used as a love token as early as 600 B.C. as an important talisman of relationships. In the ancient world it was said to also have powers of physical beautification and facial masks of Rose Quartz have even been recovered from Egyptian tombs, thought by the Egyptians and Romans to clear the complexion and prevent wrinkles. It was also a stone used by the Tibetan cultures, and continues to be one of the major stones used in carvings in China.
One of its main properties is said to be of universal love. It can be the restorer trust and harmony in relationships and represents unconditional love. Rose Quartz can open the heart at all levels to promote love, self-love, healing and feelings of peace. It is a calming stone that is reassuring, and helps to comfort in times of grief. Rose Quartz can dispel negativity and, replacing it with loving vibes and encourages forgiveness and self acceptance.
It can assist dissolving emotional wounds, fears and resentments, and reawakening the heart to a new level of self love in order to be able to give and receive love from others as well. It is very effective Crystal in attracting new love, romance and intimacy, or in developing a closer bond with family or friends.

It can speed up recovery, reduces high blood pressure, aids chest and lung problems, heals the kidneys, the adrenals and is said to have properties to increase fertility.
As it has a light red/ pink colour, is one of the natural birthstones of those born in mid-autumn, (October and November) and being that colour brings energy. Rose Quartz is a zodiac stone for those born under the sign of Scorpio at the end of the harvest but It is also a stone good to strengthen romance for a Libra or Taurus too.
